When developing V2X services and applications, ordinary developers will confront difficult problems such as a constraint on V2X device supply and a lack of the open source based WAVE standards including IEEE 802.11p and IEEE 1609.x. In order to solve these problems, it is necessary the contribution of the open source community.

This talk will present an overview of V2X development on the Linux, specially based on the ARM based SoC and commercial radio chipset compatible with IEEE802.11a. In order to support the vehicular communication, the mainline Linux kernel has recently supported the Outside the Context of a BSS (OCB) mode specified in the IEEE 802.11p amendment. By using the low-cost V2X development platform and Open Source contributions, SW development related to V2X applications could be encouraged.
